Around this time every year the hills surrounding the Los Angeles area catch fire to some extent or another.

It is terrifying. I certainly remember those views, the air, and the anxiety when we lived in southern California. My father in law is in one of the affected areas now.
I hope you all stay safe.
Wow! It is always scary when stuff like that hits home. Makes you realize all we have and all we take for granted.
Wow! And I thought the smoke we have had blown into our area was nasty- at least it isn't scary!
Hope you guys stay out of harm's way and that the fires can be put out soon!
SO sadly beautiful in pics.
Amazing pictures! I hope your home stays safe!
I hope you are in a safe area. Can't even imagine. I take so much for granted.
That looks so frightening!!
that is so scary. last time we were in CA we saw a lot of smoke due to the fires. that's definitely something you don't see in NJ. hoping for rain for you :)
if that was a sunset it would be beautiful, but it ain't, it's just plain scary. i was going to email you to see if you guys were ok - are the fires close?
we had another earthquake (my computer started rocking at work!) and i thought of you :)
How scary, I hope you all stay safe.
Very scary stuff. My parents are up in the Oakland Hills, I worry about fires :/
I hope the fires get contained v. soon. It's really scary stuff.
That is just horrible. :(
Yikes, Girl. Keeping you in prayer, for safety and peace. Blessings to all those who are in the literal line of fire...
Blessings~
I can't imagine what people in that area are going through. Prayers for your neighbors and everyone's safety...
I really can't even imagine....

It's hard to imagine what it would be like...Incredible.
How scary! The photographs are stunning, yet it must be terrifying!
That is close to home, Angie. We've had a fire up here in Auburn, but not like what you guys are seeing. Photos like that make me really appreciate those firefighters!
yuck! My mom and sis are in the area you must be. have horrible air quality right now. We're in the south OC so out of the way. Hope you're not to close. Stay safe!
Beautiful pictures, too bad it is under unfortunate circumstances. I hope you and your family remain safe. I have been watching the news each day and I hope the fires are contained soon. Too much devastation already. Take care.

Oh, please PLEASE be safe!!
It is so scary. We have so many friends effected by these fires. One of the fire fighters who died went to high school with us. Such a tragedy. Hope you are too affected.
Wow that is so scary. Please be safe if you are in the area.
It's so devastating. Last I heard there were 65 homes lost. I hope you are safe and sound and far from the immediate danger.
That is a very troubling sight. I really can't even imagine.
Nothing scares me more than fire. I hope everyone in harm's way stays safe!
Hope you guys are all safe from any threat...I know we live a little ways from the fires but still are sufferring the smoke!
I hope your not too close to where the fires are, that's scary..
It has been awful!
Keep praying for our firefighters!
I always hate hearing about the fires. We get them in the mountains up near us too.
So scary...I can't even imagine!
I dont know if you remember me, I know we've left comments for each other in the past...do you live by the L.C. fire (paranthesis for privacy!)? I grew up there and my parents still live there. What a small world! My mom said the ash and smoke is bad...we're by camp pendleton and another fire started there today. Crazy and scary! I'll be praying for your family's safety and that they get it out soon.
That is so scary! It seems nowhere is safe from Mother Nature. On the Gulf we had to worry about hurricane season, here in Arkansas we worry about tornados, and you all have to worry about wild fires and earthquakes probably too, huh? Ack! No one can escape Mother Nature.
Oops, I said parenthesis for protection and I meant abbreviation for protection. I guess I am more tired than I thought! : )
That is just so scary! I hope you all remain safe.
OMGosh that is awful and looks so close to you how can people breathe So sad
It is scary. I was just speaking with my SIL about this today and asking her how far away this was from where she was.
Gotta whisper prayers.
Woah, that looks too close for comfort! I hope you and your family stay safe!
WOW, that is scary stuff. I hope you are not to close to the fires!
Happy WW!
I dreamed about those last night-- so freaking scary.
The photos are so dramatic, scary stuff. Make sure you keep safe.
Scary stuff - stay safe!
Are you near this? Sending positive vibes your way...
I can't imagine what that fear must feel like. Stay safe. Sending prayers your way.
Wow, that is scary. I am glad it is just pictures you showing of the smoke and not something worse.
It's just so upsetting!
I remember growing up knowing the wildfires were around and not really realizing how close they actually were. I always just thought it made the clouds look pretty.
Those are so scary but magnificant!
I've been watching the news...it's so sad.
My Wordful Wednesday is posted: WEATHER OR NOT .... Here I come!
Those photos are scary - something sad to see everyday!
Wow...super scary. Those captures are amazing, tho!

We are coming to Anaheim next week for the D23 convention and to visit Disneyland, so I guess I'll get to see this kind of stuff first hand. Scary!

I hope that you and your friends and family all stay safe. That would be terrifying. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!
What a tragedy! Makes me appreciate even more the photos I posted today. Our town had the first tree ordinance in the United States. I've posted the results. Thank goodness, we've never been through such a fire, although many of our trees have been lost during hurricanes & tornados.

Yikes, beautiful pictures but such a scary reminder that nature can be so dangerous!
I've been watching this on the news and thinking about all of you. So scary....and so sad that lives are being lost. Is Valencia anywhere near the area?
Hugs and prayers for everyone!
Wow, I hope it's over soon!
Very scary- we get wildfires also in Oklahoma but nothing to this extent! Please stay safe, my prayers are with you! BTW, I want to play along. My blog is private, but I would love to open it up to you!
Every time I watch on tv, I get tears for the families who have lost so much. Keep safe, praying for the safety of so many!
Wow that is scary looking!
oh my goodness; i hope everyone is alright. how scary.
That is scary! I can't imagine.
Neat pictures, but very scary!
WOW those are some amazing pictures!
I completely understand and am praying!!
We were living in San Diego during the wildfires 6 years ago. At one point the fires were only a few miles away from our apartment, but all the freeways were shut down so there was no getting out of the city! I still remember the smell of the thick smoke and the unbelievable sight of ash raining down so thick that the street lights came on at noon! Stay safe!!!
Oh wow!! That is so scary!! I hope they can get it under wraps soon. I can't imagine...
Those pictures bring back so many memories. I grew up in Temecula ( actually between Temecula and Winchester) we had a huge fire come through our place. We had to let all the animals go and tons of people came to save the house. It was so so scary. I will never forget it.
God Bless those fireman and the people over there.
Wow, that is really frightening! I hope you all keep safe, I'll be praying for the homeowners and all the rescue and fire personnel!
Hope its under control soon!
OMGOSH! I hope you aren't too close to it. Stay safe and stay healthy (that air has got to be just awful...)
It really should put "things" into perspective! I pray for everyone's safety!
So scary and sad! Hope you're all staying safe!
Oh, wow!
Stay safe, Angie!
Thanks for sharing. Sometimes from across the country, it just doesnt sink in as to how real all of that is. Hope your home remains safe!
definitely praying everyone stays safe. those pictures really bring it home.
I'll keep you in my prayers. I remember them all too well after growing up in Orange County. Be safe!
It is really scary :( My grandparents and many of my classmates lost their homes in huge fire when I was in high school. I can't return to my hometown without seeing the damage/new construction all around.
That is so scary! I hope all is ok with you all!
It is so sad Angie! One of my friends that is a school teacher there had to tell her students that the falling ash was not snow. I am praying for the families!
That is scary!
I have ash all over my car, and I live in Santa Monica
Just wanted to leave a note to say Hi! I am using your idea of a geriatric peeping tom from Mama's Losing It. Come visit! :)
Holy cow, I completely forgot today was Wednesday! Geeze, I had to whip up a WW!
Anyhoo...we have been getting smoke down here too, but only enough to cause spectacular sunsets. I have a few of them on my 365 blog.
I hope you all are far enough away. It seems that these wild fires are becoming way to common place.
How can such carnage be so beautiful. Terrifying but still hauntingly beautiful.
Scary!! Fires started in Greece the last few days we were there and they were threatening my husband's cousin's house. We could smell the smoke, but couldn't see the fire. Scary stuff!! Be safe!
its too bad that it has gotten so outa control. Hopefully the smoke is not irritating your eyes, nose throat etc... I am super sensitive to that and so if I pass through that kind of area My eyes go crazy for days or weeks afterward.
Also I wonder if some of your freeways are closed etc...
Not pretty.
Wow...I have family in the Southern California area. They have said how thick the smog is when those fires are raging. So scary. I hope the fires are completely contained soon.
