Around this time every year the hills surrounding the Los Angeles area catch fire to some extent or another.

This year is no exception.

Scary stuff.
Look at all this smoke that reminds us that somewhere very near fires are raging. Homes are being evacuated. Lives are being lost. Smoke is in the air and ash is raining down.

It is terrifying. I certainly remember those views, the air, and the anxiety when we lived in southern California. My father in law is in one of the affected areas now.

I hope you all stay safe.

I dont know if you remember me, I know we've left comments for each other in the past...do you live by the L.C. fire (paranthesis for privacy!)? I grew up there and my parents still live there. What a small world! My mom said the ash and smoke is bad...we're by camp pendleton and another fire started there today. Crazy and scary! I'll be praying for your family's safety and that they get it out soon.

Sara Elizabeth said...

That is so scary! It seems nowhere is safe from Mother Nature. On the Gulf we had to worry about hurricane season, here in Arkansas we worry about tornados, and you all have to worry about wild fires and earthquakes probably too, huh? Ack! No one can escape Mother Nature.

Carla (Choosing His Joy) said...

Oops, I said parenthesis for protection and I meant abbreviation for protection. I guess I am more tired than I thought! : )

What a tragedy! Makes me appreciate even more the photos I posted today. Our town had the first tree ordinance in the United States. I've posted the results. Thank goodness, we've never been through such a fire, although many of our trees have been lost during hurricanes & tornados.

I completely understand and am praying!!

We were living in San Diego during the wildfires 6 years ago. At one point the fires were only a few miles away from our apartment, but all the freeways were shut down so there was no getting out of the city! I still remember the smell of the thick smoke and the unbelievable sight of ash raining down so thick that the street lights came on at noon! Stay safe!!!

Kara @ His, Hers and Ours said...

Oh wow!! That is so scary!! I hope they can get it under wraps soon. I can't imagine...

Those pictures bring back so many memories. I grew up in Temecula ( actually between Temecula and Winchester) we had a huge fire come through our place. We had to let all the animals go and tons of people came to save the house. It was so so scary. I will never forget it.

God Bless those fireman and the people over there.

Holy cow, I completely forgot today was Wednesday! Geeze, I had to whip up a WW!

Anyhoo...we have been getting smoke down here too, but only enough to cause spectacular sunsets. I have a few of them on my 365 blog.

I hope you all are far enough away. It seems that these wild fires are becoming way to common place.

How can such carnage be so beautiful. Terrifying but still hauntingly beautiful.

Scary!! Fires started in Greece the last few days we were there and they were threatening my husband's cousin's house. We could smell the smoke, but couldn't see the fire. Scary stuff!! Be safe!

Salty Incisor said...

its too bad that it has gotten so outa control. Hopefully the smoke is not irritating your eyes, nose throat etc... I am super sensitive to that and so if I pass through that kind of area My eyes go crazy for days or weeks afterward.
Also I wonder if some of your freeways are closed etc...
Not pretty.

Kelli @ writing the waves said...

Wow...I have family in the Southern California area. They have said how thick the smog is when those fires are raging. So scary. I hope the fires are completely contained soon.
