"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

Is it as crazy at your house as it is at mine?

Somehow in the hustle and bustle I managed to forget about writing a Wordful Wednesday post until someone emailed me about it.

Gasp.  How that's even possible I'll never know since I thought it was routine by now.....

So, I'd like to leave you with evidence of the activity going on {Gingerbread house decorating is a tradition we cannot miss} in my household and particularly draw your attention to my kitchen counters.

Double gasp.  Stuff everywhere.

I'm trying to breathe deeply and keep my heart palpitations under control.

Merry Christmas!
*Remember, exciting news coming soon.  Keep checking back because there will be something in it for one of you!

Remember how I told you that we had family pictures taken last month?

I did something this year that I've never done before.

Wanna see?

Yes, that is what you think it is.  A Canvas Wrapped Print.   Isn't it fantastic? I'm SO excited.  And the best news?  Color Incorporated, the company where I got the print has offered to give you a 16X20 canvas wrapped print, too.  For more information, go here.

I love to travel.  If I could travel abroad with my children, or without them without feeling guilty, I would.  To be honest though, trying to plan trips with a large family is difficult logistically and financially, which is why going to Utah is one of my favorite vacation destinations.

I don't know that it would be a favorite destination if I didn't have tons of family there, and a feeling that my "heritage" is there as well.

My ancestors were pioneers and helped settle the areas they lived in.  I feel pride in that accomplishment and love to hear the stories of their tremendous feats of strength and faith.  In a weird way, when I visit I feel like I'm a part of the heritage of the state, even though I haven't lived there in many years, and certainly never did anything to "leave a mark".

Perhaps part of the pull for me to Utah is my mom.  She lived and died there, and did leave a mark.  My mom is buried in a beautiful cemetery set below on of my favorite religious edifies.  I want to be buried there too.  When I visit the Manti temple I see real artifacts that someone I'm related to lovingly created.  Even though Sanpete County hasn't ever really been my home, I feel like coming home when I visit.

Salt Lake City is also a favorite of mine.  There are so many interesting houses and buildings to be toured.  Beautiful, clean streets with old houses with character and streets set in a perfect grid.  One of my all time favorite museums is the Pioneer Museum right by the capitol.  Housed in the museum are oodles of pioneer implements and handcrafts and they sell the best honey taffy there I've ever had.

And when I say best honey taffy, I mean the best honey taffy.

What is your favorite vacation desination?

My brother has raised pigeons for as long as I can remember.

I've always thought it was an interesting hobby.  For someone else.

I'm afraid that this affinity for pigeons, in particular, somehow runs in the family.
Can you tell?

I would just like to hereby declare that no common nor show nor even a stuffed pigeon shall live at or near my house.
Are you reading this Emma?
Just thought I'd throw that out there before you got any ideas.

Seriously though, my brother raises some pretty amazing varieties of show pigeons, and the variations and interesting characteristics within each breed astounds me.  And, on an interesting note, those two pigeons being held by Emma were born on the same day by the same hen.  One was rejected by the mother and has been nursed by my brother and his wife while the other (white) pigeon has been taken care of by it's parents.  Can you see the drastic difference between their physical development?

I started a new tradition last year.

The tradition involves calling Tammie of Halcomb Photography and asking her to photograph my family before the holidays.  Knowing that this has hereby been declared a tradition by me, I have all year to think about settings and wardrobe.  All year.  Yet both years I've put those details off until the last minute and then run around like a crazy person trying to find just the right spot and just the right outfits.  Not the smartest thing to do or the best use of my time....sigh.

I found the perfect setting at the last minute this year.  It involved a park with beautiful trees and a duck/turtle pond.

There was just one tinsy problem.  Other people found the perfect spot too.

Who would have guessed?

Two bridal parties and no less than 4 quinceneras.  One hour of good light and about a million people vying for the same spots.

I wasn't very happy.  Neither was Jeff.  Tammie wasn't phased by it though and got some great shots.   At least I'm confident she did.  She always does.  I've only seen a few.

Like this one.

I can't wait to show you more.  First I have to deal with the fact that my hair looked super stupid (no one's fault but my own) in some of them and the super cute shirt I was wearing made me look.....chunkier than I'd like.  I hate it when that nasty vanity rears it's big fat head..........:)

I'm always a bit behind.  I just can't seem to get my pictures uploaded to my computer and into a post in a timely manner like you all manage to do.  Perhaps the saying, "better late than never" should be my trademark?   Or my brand, as Alli Worthington would say?

Instead of apologizing, I offer you this:  at least I'm not showing you Halloween pictures during Thanksgiving.

See?  Now I don't feel so delinquent.

May I present THE Incredible Hulk, My Clown with a Squeeky nose, A Plundering Pirate with good manners (he said, "Thanks! Matey" to all who gave him candy while Trick or Treating), an Excellent Nurse and a Superhero?

Now, let's see what you have to show me.  I'll be seeing you!

For the past few weeks we've tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.  I hereby  give notice that I am throwing in the towel.  I'm terrible about think up and sticking to a prompt.  No more prompts......just your photos........your words.......on whatever topic you chose.  Just like originally.

This could very possibly be the 43rd time I've told you all how much I love to see children sleeping. I'm sorry I'm redundant occasionally. I hope it's only occasionally, anyway.  I love to see all children sleeping, but especially babies. They just seem so angelic. And beautiful. My babies are not quite babies anymore, but I still delight in watching them sleep. Especially together.

For the past few weeks I've tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.

BUT, it's becoming more and more apparent to me that I don't do well with prompts if they are my own. So. I broke the rules and decided that Halloween pictures were more appropriate than sleeping pictures as Halloween draws near. You'll forgive me if I hold off on the sleeping prompt until next week, won't you?

This week the prompt was supposed to be: Sleeping. Kids sleeping.......you sleeping. Your dog sleeping. Totally up to you.

Instead, I made it "Ghosts Of Halloween Past".  Post pictures and descriptions of Halloween Past. This could be a memorable Halloween from when you were a child or simply a cute story and picture from past years. If you are contributing to this theme as an entry into the Flip camera giveaway please put an asterisk next to your blog name when you enter it into Mr. Linky.

A Halloween that stands out in my mind is one a few years ago...quite a few years ago where we had a family Halloween party and we actually all came in costume.  A few of my favorite costumes of the attendee's are shown below.

Ms. Piggy and Kermit the Frog.  Just in case you are wondering, Ms. Piggy is really a man and Kermit is really a woman.  Ms. Piggy has nice legs, doesn't she?

And Popeye and Olive Oil.  Perfection.

I never think of great costumes like these.  Sigh.  If you have any ideas for me for next year, I welcome your comments!

My question for the day if you would like another Flip Ultra HD entry is:  "What Halloween Prank would you like to capture with a Flip camera?"

For the past few weeks we've tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.

This week the prompt is: MOTHERHOOD. Let's see it in all its beautiful forms.

I've posted this picture before. I'm posting it again because it screams motherhood to me. I have all of my babies with me, connected, and we are heading towards one common goal.

That's kind of what motherhood is to me. Loving up my babies and trying to help lead them in the right direction. I pray I'm doing a decent job.

For Next WEEK, The prompt is:

Sleeping. Kids sleeping.......you sleeping. Your dog sleeping. Totally up to you. :)

PLEASE let me know (with an asterik by your name or blog title) if your post is about motherhood. If it is, and you are the winning Wordful Wednesday entry, you'll recieve TWO things. First, a feature on Eliza's blog with your winning entry, AND secondly, a set of aden + anais Zoo Muslin swaddling blankets (pictured below).

For the past few weeks we've tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.

This week I didn't bother using my own prompt because I have dismal no Fall decorations. Yet. You'll forgive me, won't you?

Next week's prompt is: MOTHERHOOD. Let's see it in all its beautiful forms.
For some ideas, why not check out the Motherhood Movie Blog?

A few weeks ago I received an email. It said that I had some unclaimed funds that needed to be distributed. I had had an account with the institution in the past so I followed through with the directions to claim my money.

When I spoke with the customer service representative to update my contact information I was giddy. I kept thinking: "What if I have like a thousand bucks in there unclaimed? What if? I started thinking of all the things I'd do with that new found money, and I had quite a list.

Unfortunately, the customer service agent could not tell me how much money was unclaimed, but he did tell me a check would be cut shortly and mailed out to me.

I eagerly awaited that check, and sure enough, after about a week, IT CAME!

KA-CHING

Now that, my friends is what I call hitting it big.

I think I'll go buy a piece of gum.

Oh wait. I can't afford to with these "funds". :)

Last week we tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.
This week the prompt was: Fall. What does it look like in your neck of the woods?

For Next WEEK, The prompt is:
Fall Decorations: Let's see them.

I know. What does a kid swimming with two sets of floaties have to do with Fall? Well, let me tell you. Fall is still swimming season here. Last week it was in the high 90's all week. Doesn't feel much like Autumn during the day, but it is starting to cool off at night.
I'm guessing that the leaves on the trees around here (like this Japanese maple) haven't received the memo that it's Fall yet on account of the warm weather.

Sadly, Fall just isn't Fall here like it is in other areas of the country. They don't say California has one season for no reason.

Jeff and I went to Cancun for our 10 year wedding anniversary last year. We wanted to go some where really nice and relaxing. And all inclusive. It was all of those things, and just to rub salt into the wound of all of you that haven't had any time away in too long, here's about a million pictures of the resort. Don't feel bad, reviving these pictures and the vacation is killing me. I want to go back so badly.

We had such an enjoyable time!

This is the back of the resort facing the Ocean.

The main plaza in the hotel.

Hanging beds by the bar. You know, in case you are too sloshed to sit up.

One of the main hall ways.

At the entrance to the hotel.

In a common area.
One of the views from our balcony.

Is this a nice touch or what? Rose petals shaped into a heart.

A double jacuzzi tub in our suite was really nice.

This is just half of the spacious shower in our room.

Our balcony overlooking the pool and Caribean.

The other view from our balcony. The main drag of the hotel zone.
The pool was, in a word, amazing.

The part of the pool we liked to swim in.
These fish live at our favorite restaurant.

Would we go back? In a HEART BEAT! Please, Jeff, Please. Take me back. {You never know when begging might help!}
