Tuesday's Tribute-Betty Smith, WNBA

Tuesday's Tribute

What is it?
Well, we'll tell you what it is NOT... It's Not About YOU. It's about SOMEONE ELSE. It's our chance, each of us, to shine our light on someone else.

Huh? Whaddya mean?
We each spend a lot of time talking about ourselves and our lives, but we are also fairly GIVING people too...Tuesday's Tribute is a chance to talk about OTHER people, OTHER blogs, OTHER lives.

Now's your chance to shine your light on someone else.

I've had a first edition copy (picked up at a second hand store) of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith for over a year now. It's been on my "to read" list for ages.........I should have read it long ago, but I kept bumping it for other pieces of literature (most turned out to be trash) that seemed more exciting.

I finally started the book, and I can tell already it's going to be a favorite.

So, here's to you, Ms. Smith, for writing a wonderfully lasting novel.

I love your prose.

I can't wait to read more.

What did you think of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn?

Also, if any of you are WNBA fans, be sure to visit HERE. The One to One Network has some great deals on the remaining games in the regular season.

I'm slow and finally responding to your comment on Jennifer's blog--can I tell you how relieved I am to know my kids aren't the only ones breaking everything I own? I even have stuff that survived me, my sister, three little brothers and I bring it home and it doesn't last even a DAY. My decorating style (mostly on end tables) has changed from 'something kind of nice to look at' to 'ghetto simplicity'. And twins--I shudder--heaven (and prozac) help me if I"m blessed with those. ;)

That is a CLASSIC! I read it several years ago and I remember it was one of those books you couldn't put down because she writes as if you were actually there. So engaging. Excellent read!

I'm so glad you're finally getting to reading it! It's on my favorites, you know? Maybe I'll read it again after I finish my current reading.

Have you seen the movie? It's wonderful as well.

I just adore that book. And there is a sequel of sorts called "Joy in the Morning." It's not nearly as good as "Tree..." but it's worth reading.

My daughter read "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" last week and really liked it. And I am reading "The Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society" - and it is just FANTASTIC...

You'll have to convince me as to why I should put down the latest YA to read serious literature. (I confess to reading the YA. Most of it is really good. Thanks again for introducing me to Graceling!)

Oooh! I always love to hear about a good book. It's hard to sift through all of them, so I love hearing recommendations. I'll have to add this to my list of "I want to read that." Thanks for sharing. :)
