Sometimes being slammed...

is quite entertaining.

I've been very lucky in that I rarely, rarely get anonymous comments, which I'm VERY thankful for.

We all know that 'anonymous' usually equals nasty.

Like this one in response to my KA by Cirque du Soleil review:

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "KA by Cirque du Soleil": Don’t base your opinion on someone else’s about Cirque shows. (Good point. I agree some what. It was reviews like yours that prompted me to see KA. And you already know that my opinion differs from yours.) You must see them all and have your own opinion on them. (I haven't seen them all......I can only speak for KA...and I did limit my comments to that particular show.) Personally I hated "O" and lots of people enjoyed it... KA is an amazing show; I really enjoyed it a lot. (For someone that doesn't want others to base their opinions on others, I'm surprised that you offer your opinion at all.) And the "gatekeepers" in the beginning are my favorite part. They're hilarious. (I totally disagree. I thought they were ridiculous.) I totally recommend KA, if you’re not theatrically challenged that is . (Mission accomplished. You slammed me. I don't concur. My opinion is subjective. Just like yours. That doesn't make me "theatrically challenged". Everyone has their own agency and can take my review or leave it. Just like yours. )

Thank you for making my day, Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous. Next time leave your "calling card" and we can discuss more thoroughly.

Any of you have any anonymous comments that have entertained you?

I don't allow anonymous comments, but I once had a really self-righteous LDS author leave a comment telling me that my satire crossed the line and I should be banned from the Internet. It totally made my day.

I've never had slammin' comments but anonymous has visited my blog too! At my blog, anonymous has commented with about 8 paragraphs of social commentary.
As if anyone values the opinion of someone who is not willing to own their words.

I accept anonymous comments, I just don't put them on if they are super negative. Luckily, I haven't had anyone insult me yet. I'm sure it will happen eventually. Have a wonderful weekend and take care.

it's one thing to disagree it's another to insult. i haven't had anyone yet, but i've only been writing for short time. i'm sure my day will come.

In the year and a half that I have been blogging, I have only received one negative comment from someone I didn't know. I guess I am pretty lucky.

People amaze me.

First off, Anonymous commenters are nothing but CHICKEN. Plain and simple.

Second, and I said this all through the presidential election, how hard is it to have your own opinion without telling others how "wrong" or "stupid" or "theatrically challenged" they are?

It is not a FACT, it is an OPINION.

People are jackasses.

Just my opinion.

Well, I most certainly am theatrically challenged and based on that fact I will not be seeing KA. So, anonymous, thanks for that. In your face!

My blog hasn't been around that long, so I'm sure it will happen at some point. Everyone has a difference of opinion, which is what makes the world go round. But, those that leave comments like that are complete cowards. They are not accompishing a thing with a response like that. It's more annoying than insulting.

I got a repeater last week, who insists that I am a horrible mom, a boozer and that I am ruining Brody's life because I have a boyfriend.

I thought it was pretty hilarious actually, because anon's perception of me is so far from the truth. I'd love to visit their blog, but I would NOT post as anonymous!

Really??! If I had seen Ka and liked it, I would tell you what I thought. As me. Of course, I don't think I'd be calling you theatrically challenged either. But I kinda like that term!

And the idea of seeing all the shows. Again. Really?? Who can afford that?

Are you going to see another show when we are there in October? I am not sure if it will fit into my budget...but we are thinking about O and Love.

Per usual, ditto what Jay said.

"theatrically challenged?"

Great. A broadway snob. What fun.

I'm actually quite surprised that I don't receive more annon. nastiness since I do like to hang it out there. It does bother me though that some people have a difficult time balancing opinion and being judgemental.(is that judgemental?)

You can disagree without getting personal - it's the American way

:-)

Wow - seriously? "theatrically challenged"? That is classic. I can't stand self-righteous people. What's funny is the fact that they have such a strong opinion but won't stand behind what they have to say. I think the internet makes people too brave sometimes.

I had a bad one recently. We're going through the adoption process. We don't have kids, so I'm learning all the do's & don'ts currently. I posted asking about buying a car seat off Craigs List b/c our social worker wants us to have one by our final home study, but we don't have the $$ to buy the one we really want right now. So I thought maybe we'd buy one off CL until we are closer to a placement.

This person commented that perhaps I am not quite ready to be a mom if I would do something so selfish as to put a child in a used car seat, so maybe we should just wait to adopt until I'm ready to start thinking about people other than myself.

Wow. Sorry that was so long!

I've had only one anonymous comment (my blog doesn't get a lot of traffic)...but it was in response to something (I can't quite recall exactly) I'd asked about Moose and milestones. It basically said I was stupid to rely on strangers and the internet and I should ask my doctor. Well, duh. But I do rely on strangers (ie..you! and my other mom readers) because sometimes I don't know what to do :)

What an ass. I've never had any (oops, knock on wood) but my hubby has a political blog and gets them quite a bit. He enjoys flogging them because they are too chicken to leave their name.

So, I'm guessing you aren't suppose to express your true feelings about things if someone else disagrees? Hmmm...isn't it called a "review" so we can get different opinions on whatever is being reviewed?

As always.. I agree with you and what Jay said also... Think maybe we should just make Jay the spokesman LOL

That's just awesome!! I have never been slammed on my blog (at least not this one)....I guess I'm to vanilla - I don't post anything controversial, you know, like a review of a Cirque show.

Sheesh! I'm glad I encourage people to grow a pair {read: don't allow anon comments}.

I've only had a few truly anonymous comments, and only one that I didn't like. They were sarcastic and nasty and a little insulting... but they haven't been back so, eh, what do I care!

I think your response was fabulous :)

OMG!! I just had an anonymous comment on my post yesterday too!! I addressed it on my blog today, too, and then turned off anonymous comments. I just think that if they're going to be rude, and not attach their name to it where I can contact them back, then it's just not necessary.

Why read my (or your) blog just to leave a rude comment? An opinion is one thing, but being rude and snarky is quite another. UGH!!

You can agree to disagree in a nice way. Why can't people understand that we all don't have to like the same thing? If we did, life would be boring!

Ya... I'm going to have to say that "anonymous" seems like another way of saying, "I like to be nasty but I don't have the balls to do it openly." Very impressive. Very.

Ya know, sometimes I wish I would just get slammed! I've definately left myself open to scrutiny on some of my posts but haven't received much.

Will someome please just argue with me? It makes things interesting!

Hmmmm - no issues with any comments but I do feel empowered knowing I could delete any at any moment.

ugh -d on't even get me started on the pro gun guy that has a permanent alert set up, so that anyone who writes about guns is an immediate target for him to launch his pro-gun offensive.

it's all good - it's not like road rage or anything!!!

I love blog drama. Most of my drama commenters send me scathing emails rather than leave it on my blog, which is also cowardly because then what they say is private rather than public. . . . but now and then I get some good comment drama. As long as they don't attack others, I don't mind too much, Keeps me from being bored!

Rebecca said...

Oh, I love your injected commentary there. The whole thing is kinda funny. The fact they got so riled up about it! Goodness.

My commentees generally name themselves, unless it concerns a political post. Then there are always negative remarks.

I'm pretty sure that my anonymous comments come from my crazy mother! Loved your comeback!

I haven't yet had the pleasure of the anonymous slam. I do have experience with the anonymous posters and notes on our car and front door when we lived in another state. So glad to be gone from there. Yep, it was a great neighborhood. Real friendly neighbors who were spineless. I just don't respect someone who has to leave an anonymous comment.

But, perhaps they weren't trying to be anonymous so much as the fact they didn't really have an account.

Becky said...

I haven't had any annonymous comments yet...but someone was reading my facebook comments and reporting their skewed view of what they thought I was saying to my hubs...He wasn't willing to take my word for it nor read my real words...and there was a huge fight that resulted in the termination of my facebook page and erasing three months worth of blog entries just in case they had mentioned his job in any form. took me two weeks to start putting my project pics on and a bit longer than that to be brave enough to write again. he still won't tell me who the reporter is nor why he would take their word over mine. And he is gone Mon-Fri with his job. And I guess figured they knew me better than he? I don't know...whole thing wierd and fishy. I think I would rather have an anonymous comment that hopefully I could laugh off. Not too good at that though. I personally love your blog. Keep up the good work!

The only anonymous comment I've ever gotten turned out to be my dad.

Seems kind of weird to have such a strong reaction to a review of a show!!!! Maybe it was the artistic director of KA or something. Was funny though!

anonymous scare me actually. I once got an anonymous comment that made me had to moderate my comment for quite a while. if only all anonymous people are as nice as this one commenting on your post :)

Nope, I never had one yet or anything nasty. But then again I only post recipes. I don't think anyone's gonna slam me for using mayo vs. miracle whip :)
