The Magic in 3

I've got a SERIOUS Spiderman die-hard at my house.

You all know this. Because I've told you before.

Everytime I see or hear more evidence of this growing/never waning obsession, though, I'm a bit surprised.

I can't think of any object or concept I've felt so passionately about that it literally consumes my life, so it's hard for me to relate.

Maybe that's part of the magic of being 3. Or maybe he's just weird. That's a possibility, too.

Next up on his wish list?

Spiderman shoes. To go with his Spiderman PJ's.

Do you think his heart will be broken when he doesn't get those shoes?

To see what others are saying, go see Mama Kat.

My youngest boy is almost 10 and STILL obsessed with Spidey!

It is Thomas The Tank Engine over here. It is like drugs for 2 year olds.

We are a Thomas and Friends house. I think he has every train and freight car in the catalog. I actually told everyone last year that for Christmas and birthday there are to be no more Thomas purchases. He was spidey for Halloween and actually wore the costume the other day. Happy ATWT and take care.

I know exactly what you mean about not being able to relate to the obsession. My kids have not been obsessed with any one thing so far. They go through mini stages, like when they only want to wear red....but that's different. He'll survive w/o the shoes, but if he needs shoes anyway, get them!

No. His heart will not be broken b/c you have to buy him the shoes. #3 is in love with Spidey, too. He screams his name every time we see Spidey's image. And, he loves his Spidey shoes. Even though they are water shoes, he wears them constantly. So, buy the shoes. They may not be high fashion (I, personally, hate character shoes and clothing), but he will SO love them!

my second is a huge spider man fan, he is actually running around in a spidey pj shirt with webs right now. getting him out of it probably won't happen today. i say buy the shoes, his heart won't break without them but man will he have fun with them.

When my son was about 3 he was obsessed with Spiderman too. I even found him up on top of the refrigerator getting ready to jump off but reminded me that he could shoot webs if he thought he would get hurt. I got him down and told him Spiderman shouldn't be on the fridge because he is so strong and powerful that he might damage it.

And now he's 9 and wears a Spiderman and Carnage t-shirt to sleep in!

My nephew was this way about Batman from 2.5 to 3.5 years of age... now he's over it. Over night. I went to visit, and asked where Batman was (because he would wear a Batman mask ALL DAY LONG on the last visit) and he looked at me like I was stupid. Thanks Ry!

I have a junior IronMan in my house. He was soooo mad at me when he realized his new IronMan suit, complete with gloves, boots, and a flashing chest light did not in fact, fly.

You've got to get the shoes. We have some that light up and our 3 yo loves 'em! He loves any super hero. Batman is the biggest favorite right now. I think it is so cute to see little guys running around in the costumes. :)

Baloney! Hello - your kiddos :-)

Wonder if Mama can get shoes?

(It's Hotwheels here. I was hoping boy #2 would like superheros just for a change of pace. No such luck.)

Angie, my 8 year old is still in love with Spiderman. They funny thing about that...is she's a girl.

She has the shoes, the shirts, the stuffed dolls and the action figures.

She is a superhero who can take some serious teasing from other girls.

She is not a tomboy. She loves the color pink and insists she will marry spiderman

I'm beginning to think she is right.

Oh and we went to the store the other day to get jack some new sandals....they had some really cute flip flops but Jack found some Cars light up sandals...we got him the flip flops and he hates them...and won't wear them! I should have just gotten him the trashy Cars...I say trashy b/c they remind me of nascar shoes...no that nascar is trashy but you get what im sayin'.

How can you EVEN consider saying "NO" to the shoes??? He HAS to have the shoes!

Stacey said...

Please tell me you let him wear the cape out of the house! Does he have the Spidey-wrist-web-sprayer thing? My sons loved that thing! I'm sure it's just a phase, but just be sure to take lots of photos to show him when he's getting married. :)

Oh he is so sweet. I hope you find the shoes. If they make them..

This I am scared that spidey might be creepy into our house also. Maybe I can get him to stay away. Oh the things that 3 year olds attach themselves too!! He will be okay without the shoes. Stopping in from Writer's Workshop!

My youngest discovered Spiderman from a cute young Dad in our Ward. He had a Spiderman doll his mohter had made him. My little guy loved it! Alas, he grew out of it, so buy him those shoes. He is three for such a short time! What a sweet post!

I definitely think it's a 3 y/o thing. My son is 3 too and is HUGELY into trucks and construction vehicles. I don't get it but he sure does.

Those loves of our babies...those are the things we remember always. I remember the face of one son when we got him the toy backhoe he wanted, from LaBelles. I remember the face of my son when he got a Thundertank! and a Thundercat big wheel. Those two are now married...and I will never forget. Get him the shoes!!!

Awe! Get him the shoes. You know you want to... save the "no's" for when they want stupid stuff like Abercrombie stuff :)

I didn't even know they MADE Spiderman shoes. He must have them, you know.

Justine said...

I'd suggest you do a google search for both spidey shoes and slippers. Can't break his heart. He's too damn cute. And yeah, I think he may be weird too.

Evie is currently obessed with DORA. Ugh. I will be happy when that little phase is over. I'd take Superman over Dowa de Esplowa any day.

Especially if he looked like yours.

Cecily R said...

OOPS. I said Superman and I so totally meant Spiderman. Don't tell the kid. If I ever get to meet him I want him to like me. :)

Mr. Man keeps telling me that Spiderman is not real, there is no chance of him scaling the house. I had my doubts but now it is confirmed. Spiderman is alive and well.
At 3, I had a Ninja Turtle.

Live.Love.Eat said...

It's amazing isn't it. Mine went from the Wiggles to Woody & Buzz to TMNT to SpiderMan. Our little superheros.

Too cute! So, what does his brother love?

So dog gone cute! It is definitely the magic of childhood and I adore it!

My son goes through obsessive phases too -- each lasts about 2 to 3 months but then will get recycled again every 6 to 8 months. Right now we are in Transformers ... then we'll go back to Cars and then we'll end up Legos...and so on and so forth. I can't wait for the sleeping obsession. When does that start?

Spiderman shoes will make the outfit so much cooler : ) For real!
