Lucky you.....

You all missed it.

The crying, screaming. Gnashing of teeth. Pulling of hair.

That's what I've been doing all week.

You see, BOTH of my computers became infected with a nasty virus and decided to crash on me.
Which wouldn't be such a big deal (yeh, right), except all of my photos from the last 5 years were on my computers... And I hadn't backed them up.

I can see you shaking your head.

I know. It's my fault. I was too cheap to keep up my anti virus software.

No need to feel sorry for an idiot.

I'm just saying.........I'm over it. Almost. Partly because I turned 34 years old early for gift purposes ONLY and just received Lola. She's my new computer. She's sassy and had better give me a few good years. Or else.

So, while I'm trying to figure out how to catch back up, head on over to Mom It Forward and tell me what you think about todays article. Pretty please?

P.S. My thoughtful husband also bought me an external hard drive and anti virus software so I don't cripple his wallet again in the near future. Wasn't that nice of him?

seriously? how terrible...

ok, hubs is a computer engineer by degree and we do hourly backups on our computer...and when mine died a few months ago, he had it all up and fine within an hour. thanks goodness...enjoy your new love. take good care her.

Oh, oh . . . no good. I have a computer guru friend, and when my computer got a nasty virus, he was able to not only SALVAGE all my pictures/songs/journals, he was able to get it back to me bigger/badder/faster. The cost to me? A plate of brownies and the time to listen to his lecture about the importance of backing things up!

Sorry about the computer:( I loved your article. Mike and I were just talking about that exact thing on Valentines day when we went to dinner, with the THREE kiddos. We can only think of two times in the past 8 years since Jordan was born, that we have gone out without them. The problem is, they are easy to take out, don't cause a lot of problems, and no need to arrange for a sitter. HOWEVER, we are now realizing some of the major points you mentioned is lacking in our marriage. Thanks for the additional boost!! Also, we are coming to Disneyland the first week of May, we will be there from Monday the 4, until Saturday the 9. I am not sure how far you are, but if we could fit it in it would be great to she you!!

OH NO!
Atleast you have a bunch of pics on Picasa from loading them on your blog, right?
I had that happen to me not once, but twice and thankfully I had loaded a bunch of pics into Photobucket and Picasa, so I didn't lose everything.

I hope Lola treats you well.

I feel for you!! I have massive anxiety so I luckily FREAKED out once my lap top (which had NOTHING on it) crashed and got an external HD from my cousin. Thank God I can sleep at night again!!!

I'm glad you got all kinds of fun new stuff though! :)

I lost a bunch of priceless baby pics once. I know the feeling. Makes ya want to puke and punch yourself in the face all at the same time. Good luck with Lola.

Nicole said...

Ooooh nooooo! I did that last year and it just makes you sick to your stomach. I thought I was going to throw up and then my husband made a good point. We still have our kids.
Ok, he wins.

Been there done that. I lost pics of my first baby's first Christmas. But 5 years? That's a lot. I hope you can get some of them back, somehow....

Jenners said...

Oh that totally sucks! It always takes something like this to make you realize that virus protection is worth it. And perhaps an external hard drive to back up your files. Yikes.

Jocasta said...

Oh no! Only by the grace of god this hasn't happened to me!

Hope you can recover some of the pictures

momma said...

don't feel bad for not backing your stuff up. we back up every 6 months - like clock work (literal, on daylight savings time days). 2 years ago, our computer crashed the day before daylight savings time in the fall!!!! and i thought we had lost all our pictures from several new and important events that had happened over the summer. fortunately, my husband was able to get into the hard drive and retrieve them all.

Tim said...

Wow Ang your like the 6th person I have heard of that has had computer problems lately and lost pictures. That is why I always keep the discs from the camera and just buy new discs. That way I always have them.

I hope you get it all worked out.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

Oh my gosh! I can't imagine how that must feel! I hope there's a way to retrieve your pictures......I have NEVER backed mine up and there are thousands and thousands of them. I keep telling hubby that it's something that needs to be done. I'm not sure how to do it but he is. Pictures just don't mean as much to him as say, working on his dirtbikes does so it remains undone. Good luck!

That happened to us last year. We paid to have the hard drive retrieved somehow. They put everything on disk...problem is...now we're having a hard time getting that much info to download to the computer. It takes forever. I'm still an idiot b/c I haven't backed up files since then.

Love your new computer's name :)

If you want to spend time/money on getting your photos back, you can always hire one of those services where they recover data for you from hardrives. They can recover deleted info because it isn't really deleted until you write over it with new information. They can even get stuff from damaged harddrives. (this is why you should destroy your harddrive when you recycle your computer, so no criminals get your private data) So your photos are still there, you just have to go get them. If the computer still works enough to install software, there is software out there that you can use to do it yourself.

Keri said...

Oh man, I would've lost it! Call me crazy, call me batty, what have you.... I don't know what I'd do without my pictures. Reminds me... I have to get 2008 photos onto an external drive.

Sorry to hear of your loss, but glad Lola's come into your life. May she serve you well!

Stacy Uncorked said...

OH I feel your pain! Been there - in fact, I am still hanging on to my old hard drive on the off-chance that I'll be able to recover the pictures I lost of the Princess Nagger's birth someday - luckily I had emailed a bunch of them before my computer crashed, so my friends and family sent some back...but there are so many more I hadn't emailed... Fingers crossed you'll recover yours! :)
