If you want to know the truth....

Look what I found? A gem I forgot to publish last month..........

Just ask your kids. If you can't handle the truth, don't ask.

Trust me on this one if you haven't found this out for yourself.

Yesterday while lounging by the pool I was complaining about my weight (I'm ridiculous. I know. Weight isn't important. It shouldn't be a focus. Blah, blah, blah).

"I haven't been to the gym once this summer. I'm pretty sure I've gained 5 lbs. I think I have more cellulite than I had before I stopped exercising."

Or course, the answer I was hoping for from my husband was, "what are you talking about? You look great. Fantastic even. You'd never know you've had 5 kids. Don't be silly."
Even if it wasn't true.

What I got was my child pipping in with the truth before my husband had the chance to fib to me.

"Um, mom? I did notice that your legs look a little flabby".
Um, Thank you very little?

See? Lesson learned.

Note to self: If you can't handle the truth, don't ask. Don't fish. Just do something about it.

One of these days, I WILL get back to the gym. In the meantime, I'll be sure to be fully and completely self conscious when I'm in a bathing suit. How's that for the truth?

P.S Don't worry. My daughter assured me today that my legs look less flabby in this bathing suit than the one I was wearing yesterday.

Thanks? I think?

Note to self. THROW out the bathing suit I was wearing yesterday.

I just love it. I've had similar conversations. Anna asked me one day, while patting on my chest, how I had "two tummys?"

Unknown said...

Yes, I've had that kind of conversation before. I distinctly remember my 8 year old son saying, "Mom, I think that swimming suit is too small. I can see your bottom hanging out of it." Oh, yikes!

Honestly, if those blog friends of yours would stop harassing you so much, you could actually probably get to the gym once in a while.

Who are those people you hang out with anyways?

xoxo

Ouch. Reminds me of the time my daughter asked why my (very NON-pregnant) tummy was so big.

That was the week I finally got serious about losing weight.

Live.Love.Eat said...

Uh, yeah, I actually got the same thing when I was putting Tristan to bed last night. Ironic: Huge wake up call when going to bed. Hah.

Thank God I already had it in my head to start back to exercising today because I have been slacking majorly.

My dear sweet children lovingly refer to my curves as my "flubber". Outta the mouth of tweens, I suppose ;)

My four year old actually grabbed a bit of my stomach roll and asked what that was and if he was going to grow like that and that he hoped not b/c it was really weird-looking. Ouch.

I'm so glad I don't have kids to tell me how fat I am!

I am not sure what you are talking about! You look great! I did have one of my primary kids tell me that my legs were chubby. (I didnt even ask!!)

Susie said...

Kids don't have a filter so yes, don't ask and they won't tell:-)

Classic. My hubby says there is no way of answering that question safely without offending the one asking so we have a rule around the to never ask!

Maybe a new swim suit, though. A little shopping always cheers me up!

I was always amazed that children don't see overweight in their own parents -only in other people.

if you say that long enough, you'll start to believe it!

you are so right, don't ask if you don't want to know the real answer.

Baby steps...I'm going twice a week and plan on working my way up. Even if I don't succeed at losing those extra pounds I DO feel a lot better about myself!

ROFLMAO! I'm sorry to laugh at your humilations, but... well no. I'm not sorry. It's damn funny. Especially because you think 5 pounds would make a difference in your leg flab. Heeheeheeeee

Oh don't you love Childhood innocence and honesty? I will remember not to ask my boys those questions...EVER!

I'm sure you look great! But if you're ever in UT and feel like exercising and partying at the same time, come to my Zumba class! I've lost 22 pounds since May just doing ZUMBA! It's so much fun! I love teaching and helping people loose weight!
If you don't think you're going to be in UT anytime soon just go to www.zumba.com and find an instructor in your area ;D You'll love it!!!!

Ouch, sounds like something my son would say. He'd mean it as a way to "help" but OUCH!

Sometimes I pretend that I've had 5 children, and that 2 of them are monoamniotic.

But then I look at you and realize...nah, I'm just fat. And she's just fabulous.

And I still love you. But I win. As I have more cellulite. The end.

Twisted Cinderella said...

Yup, kids are nothing if not honest when you ask them questions like that. Not good for the ego

KatBouska said...

Lula's comment is awesome.

I only talk about how pretty I am to my kids and they have no choice, but to agree to everything I say lest they forfeit dessert.

Oh I think I feel this way sometimes. I need to work out but it seems to go down hill at times. I hope you are having a great week. Have fun in Vegas. I hope they do this again so I can join in. This year I am at my parents and can't.

Liz Mays said...

You're going to thank them later in life. For real. My kids have saved me many a faux pas in fashion.

How funny... I think... wait I have same issue.

Since starting FC my world is a whirl of visits and more and more and other hoo haw.. my excuse? EXHAUSTION.

CC said...

Ugh. I try to keep my mouth shut around the kids regarding this kind of thing. Because the husband? He's pretty kind. :)

Happy said...

Seriously? I see your profile pic and yes, I realize you aren't in a bathing suit, but still...I can't imagine that you have many issues in the weight department. And you definetely do not look like a mother of five.

So. I say bleh to the gym. Have a hamburger instead!

But very funny post!

Honey Mommy said...

This is why I have been training my boys to say things like, "Mommy, your hair looks so pretty!".

Unknown said...

I posted about my body image today too. Us women just always struggle with this don't we? Why, I just don't know... P.S. You look awesome from the pics I've seen of you Angie and someday the kids will be adults too... ; )

Unknown said...

I know JUST what you mean! : )

Shannon said...

Totally true, if you don't want to hear the truth, don't ask...at least when your kids are present. Haaaa!

Jenners said...

Oh dear. I bet she didn't know what flabby meant. I'm sure she meant "tan and toned."
