It's been fun, Dr. Brown.........

but you're banned.

That's right. I decided to give the twins a gift for their 2nd birthday. The gift of taking away their life line. Not nice, I know. I decided on Wednesday that they've had bottles for long enough and I'm sick of them. They LOVE their bottles and drink way more milk than they need to, but more than that, their bottles are their safety net. They wanted to carry them around at all times like a blanket, and it was getting old. Plus, Jacob started biting holes in the nipples and it was getting expensive to replace them. So, they gave me a gift in return. Dry diapers. Yep. They are showing me. Take away our bottles and we won't eat or drink. A real treat to not have to change their diapers, but worrisome all the same. I'm expecting that today they'll give in and eat and drink. They better. This is rough. On all of us. But I'm not giving in.

My girls were never attached like that to their bottles and they drink too much in the sippy cups. My older two did not drink anything when I took away their bottles either... but they got over it. Although they would never drink their soy milk again. Only juice or water, that worried me. The ped said it was fine (mine are allergic to dairy). Good luck! I can't believe the boys are going to be two.

The one thing my pedi did was insist that we give the bottles up at 1 year, I thought she was nuts but we muddled through (and it was not fun.)

In the end, we got rid of the bottle but the bink took it's place and we had that for 5 years...not the best trade off.

Stick to your guns mom, your doing a great job!!

Stick to your guns, no child will actually STARVE himself to death! Just think of it as practice for that dinner rule, you don't eat what's for dinner, you DON'T eat!

We took the bottle away at a year too or actually with the twins it was at 11 months but we thought that El might have to have brain surgery and I didn't want to have to deal with it after that. I was surprised at how easy it was for them... But I've never had a kid that really attached. It was a little harder for El & the binkie! Or maybe it was just harder for me. I loved the fact that I could just plug her to keep her quiet. Terrible I know... :)

We went cold turkey too. My girls didn't drink any milk for a day then it was very little for a few days after but they got hungry enough. Stick to your guns Angie. I bet you so tired of cleaning out those bottles :)

Do we really need to cut the bottling thing that early? I thought 2 years is the time to stop breast feeding, and that was what I did. I let my twin bottling until they're 4. Too late? Well, at least they don't suck all the time. After (around) 3 they only drink from bottle in the morning, and use glass for the rest. They really stop bottling just about two months ago. We stayed at my mothers house for two weeks during Eid holiday. And I pretended I forgot to bring the bottles. Thank God they could stand it, and now they have milk from glass.
Good luck anyway!

Hope the stubborn twinnies take to the sippy cup quickly. I'm sure you have had two grumpy boys walking around but kudos to you for trying to go cold turkey!

My SIL's daughter was, and still is at age 4, attached to her bottle. She STILL drinks her milk from a bottle and won't give it up. It doesn't bother me, but then again, she isn't my kid. I think it would bother me if it were Luke, so I don't blame you for taking them away. Its gotta be a bummer for the little guys though!! They'll get over them, though!

Good for you Angie. Hold out man and it'll pay off in the long run.

Stand strong Mama! You can't let them win! It will be such a relief when it is all over but I totally understand how upsetting it is when your kids don't eat and drink. Hey, since they aren't wetting diapers, maybe you could potty train them now too! Just kidding of course. Good luck with this huge transition!

How is it going now?

Oh we did the Dr. Brown bottles with Gracie. Irritating when the only ones they will take are the most expensive...

As for weaning them from the bottle, I am not, repeat NOT the example. My FIL used to say that as long as they didn't need it by school it should be okay. There are days when remembering those words were all I could do to stay sane...

The first few days were rough, but I think we're over the hump. Hooray! I can see the boys thinning out really quickly though.....

Good for you! I am sure you are sick of the bottles by now. I wish my boys drank better from sippy cups. We are working on it though. We are down to 3 bottles a day. Nap, bedtime and one around 3am. I usually have my kids give them up by 2 1/2. So not much longer for us. I have had one or two children with a bottle constantly since June of 1999!! I am SOOO ready so not have any to clean every night!
