For the past few weeks we've tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.

This week I didn't bother using my own prompt because I have dismal no Fall decorations. Yet. You'll forgive me, won't you?

Next week's prompt is: MOTHERHOOD. Let's see it in all its beautiful forms.
For some ideas, why not check out the Motherhood Movie Blog?

A few weeks ago I received an email. It said that I had some unclaimed funds that needed to be distributed. I had had an account with the institution in the past so I followed through with the directions to claim my money.

When I spoke with the customer service representative to update my contact information I was giddy. I kept thinking: "What if I have like a thousand bucks in there unclaimed? What if? I started thinking of all the things I'd do with that new found money, and I had quite a list.

Unfortunately, the customer service agent could not tell me how much money was unclaimed, but he did tell me a check would be cut shortly and mailed out to me.

I eagerly awaited that check, and sure enough, after about a week, IT CAME!

KA-CHING

Now that, my friends is what I call hitting it big.

I think I'll go buy a piece of gum.

Oh wait. I can't afford to with these "funds". :)

LOL! I love that they paid postage to send that :)

That is so stinking hilarious! It's not even worth the paper it's printed on, but it was definitely good for a laugh!

LOL, a high roller now, eh?

CC said...

Bwhahahaha!!!! Occasionally I get a "bill" for that same amount. I always think, "Was that REALLY worth the stamp?"

Anonymous said...

You're kidding! I can't believe they even bothered. It definitely makes for a great story, though.

Kacey said...

That is CUHRAZY! I think the paper the check was printed on is worth more than the actual value reflected on the check! Oh Angie - I bet you had that $$ spent on a new snazzy pair of jeans. Mmmmm hmmmm. Sorry for the let down! ;(

I think they lost money on that one. Geez!

P.S. Sorry for my double link. My computer is freaking out on me tonight and here I was thinking I was ahead of the game for once. Feel free to delete my #9 if you'd like to declutter. :)

tiarastantrums said...

didn't it cost them more to pay someone to find you, complete the paperwork, print out the check and mail it?

that's cost effective business at its finest

Unknown said...

Is that some sort of joke?? I mean really, are they serious? It cost more than that to print the check. Geez.

Thanks for the giggle though! : )

That wasn't even worth the time it took you to talk to them. Oh well. At least it gave you something to blog about. Too funny.

Kelli @ writing the waves said...

My apologies for all my links. I have no idea what the deal is tonight. Blogger and I are not getting along. Please ignore both #9 and #12. When I posted earlier, my blog page went nuts and everything went from my sidebar to the blog post side so I had to end up deleting the post and posting it again to get it back to normal. And now my formatting options are gone. Font sizes, centering, colors - all gone. :(

Way to much info, I know, but if you have any insight, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

That's brilliant! They paid someone to track you down, correspond with you, and print & mail a check for 3 cents. Now would you classify that as integrity or stupidity???

Staci said...

Can I have a loan? lol What a let down!

Great WW!

I'm amazed they spent the money to distribute that in the first place, how silly! Hopefully the next time you come across some "found" money it will be worth your time! :)

Seriously!!??? They would issue a check for that small of an amount! It probably cost them more to cut that check than it was worth! A very cute post...made me laugh. Have a wonderful day, Angie!

Wow, I'm surprised they even messed with it. Was it worth the $.42 they had to spend to send it to you? Great story though. :)

Amber Page Writes said...

How funny. At least you had something to look forward to finding in the mailbox! Thanks for sharing.

ChefDruck said...

Hey, don't knock the check... if you save up all those $.03, they might really add up. The market is depressed nowadays!

I just found a spam comment on one of my posts from that Motherhood movie. "Love your blog... check out mine..." I was pretty shocked by a poor PR tactic. Sounds like they are targeting mom blogs, but at least they approached you professionally.

Shannon said...

It cost them more to mail that darn check. Too funny. I guess it's good to know that no penny goes unclaimed.
