Last week we tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.
This week the prompt was: Fall. What does it look like in your neck of the woods?

For Next WEEK, The prompt is:
Fall Decorations: Let's see them.

I know. What does a kid swimming with two sets of floaties have to do with Fall? Well, let me tell you. Fall is still swimming season here. Last week it was in the high 90's all week. Doesn't feel much like Autumn during the day, but it is starting to cool off at night.
I'm guessing that the leaves on the trees around here (like this Japanese maple) haven't received the memo that it's Fall yet on account of the warm weather.

Sadly, Fall just isn't Fall here like it is in other areas of the country. They don't say California has one season for no reason.

Tribute Tuesday-Favorite Blog or Blogger?

For Tuesday's Tribute this week I'm supposed to spotlight my favorite blog or blogger. Since that's like asking me who my favorite child is, I'm going to have to bind my fingers (you know, instead of zipping my lips) so that I can't incriminate myself or hurt anyone's feelings.

Really, I have about a gazillion favorite blogs. And even more favorite bloggers. So, let me pass out this little tidbit instead:

1581884212_57276dd550_o

The gals at Mayhem & Moxie are going to enter ALL Tribute Tuesday participants in weekly giveaway drawings. Prizes change weekly. How cool is that?

I'd also like to personally thank the women that sent in nominations for teachers in need in conjunction with the "A Day Made Better" Campaign by OfficeMax. Winner of the pay-it-forward giftcard will be notified via email today.

Twisted Silver-"Cinderella" Bracelet

Let me introduce to you the soon-to-be-newest piece in the Salvage line by Twisted Silver. I say soon-to-be-newest because the bracelet has not been launched yet. It's set to make it's official appearance on Tuesday, October 13th, at which time you will be able to purchase the piece for $50.00. Unless of course you are the lucky winner who gets to take the piece home for free.

My first impression of the bracelet is that it's totally unlike any other piece in the Twisted Silver line because of it's shiny, polished gold plating. However, it's very much in the style of Twisted Silver pieces (totally unique AND chic), just with a different finish. The bracelet has this sort of masculine feel that they've managed to somehow look feminine and fashionable at the same time. It looks SUPER fantastic on.

The bracelet closure and Twisted Silver tag are in the distressed gold that is more commonly found on Twisted Silver pieces. This little unique element on the hinged bracelet sets it apart as Twisted Silver, but also adds a common element so that it fits cohesively into the SALVAGE line of jewelry.

If you'd like the chance to win this sassy new HINGE bracelet, simply (seperate comments, please):

1. Visit the Twisted Silver website and browse around. There are so many wonderful things to gawk at.........and buy. For an extra 15% off your order, use the coupon code INSIDERS.

2. Tweet about this giveaway using the following message and let me know that you have done so. Up to 10 entries for 10 tweets over the course of the week.

Sassy $50.00 Twisted Silver Bracelet giveaway at www.angiescircus.blogspot.com Pls RT #TS

3. Follow or subscribe to my blog.

4. Follow me on Twitter.

5. Follow Twisted Silver on Twitter.

Contest ends Sunday, October 11th at 11:50 PM PST and is only open to US Residents.

Leaving my dot com behind

Well, friends, I've bid my 7 Clown Circus dot com address adieu for now. In the span of a week I've felt super important with my own dot com, but I also lost most of you because google reader was not updating my feeds. So, until I can figure this mess out, I'm back to my blogspot address so that my feeds are updated and you come to see me. I've missed you.

Infant Formula and Breastmilk

I breast fed my first three children for over a year each.

Then my twins came along. I fully planned on breastfeeding them. I was completely confident that I would be able to do so since I had successfully breast fed my first three children, but it didn't work out that way.

My twins were born almost 2 months prematurely and were bottle fed in the NICU. I didn't try very hard to get them to nurse while they were in the hospital because they were so little and it tired them out and I thought I'd be able to get them to change over to nursing once they came home. I was wrong. I brought my boys home and they would not nurse. They wouldn't even suckle when I offered them the breast. I felt like a failure as a mother and decided that pumping breast milk was the only other option open to me in order to give the twins the best nutrition possible, but also for financial reasons. I did not want to pay for expensive infant formula for two children when I could offer them pumped breast milk.

Eventually, my milk supply could not keep with the demand of my twins and I started to supplement with expensive name brand formula. Slowly my milk dried up completely and I started to exclusively feed them infant formula. The price of brand-name formula for both of them was astronomical and so I decided to try a store brand. I carefully compared the ingredients and nutritional information and was astounded to see that I could buy a formula with the same ingredients for a fraction of the cost of the brand-name formula.

The medical and scientific communities agree that breastfeeding is best for babies. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes breast milk as the gold standard in infant nutrition.

What do you do though if for whatever reason you can't breastfeed? You use the safest alternative: infant formula. If you are dealing with guilt like I did, you might feel that you need to use the name brand formulas that claim to offer all of the same benefits of breast milk.

"Buying a heavily marketed, expensive, name-brand infant formula from a big pharmaceutical company does not get your baby closer to human breast milk than a store-brand formula. Mothers can chose to supplement their breast milk with any formula because all formulas are regulated by the FDA and nutritionally equivalent", reports Dr. Barbara Levine of Weill Cornell Medical College.

After the guilt of not being able to breastfeed my babies wore off, I realized something I wish I had realized sooner: having the ability to breastfeed one's baby does not make one a good mother. All that guilt I carried around was silly, really, and my babies that were fed store brand formula for 6 months of their lives are every bit as healthy, happy and well adjusted as my children that were breast fed.

Post?slot_id=

Are your eyes watering?

Mine are.

And I'm guessing yours would be too if you could smell my house. And me, for that matter.

No. It's not onions. I actually wish it were.

It's smoke. As in, smoke-that-is-in-my-house-as-a -result-of-my-twins-trying-to-burn-it-down.

It's my fault though, so I can't blame them.

I took a shower AND attempted to blow dry my hair without checking on them.

I guess they got hungry and decided to make their own breakfast.

Toaster waffles.

Only..........................

Only..........................

They popped and then re-popped those suckers until they were on fire.

Don't worry. No one is hurt. I've got a house full of smoke and two hungry boys (the waffles obviously didn't look very appetizing burnt to a crisp), and yet another example that proves my very unscientific theory.

No one knows real excitement and adventure until they become a parent.

Hip, Hip, Hooray for Teachers!

During the school year, my children spend about as much time with their teacher as they do with me. That's a pretty significant amount of time, and I acknowledge that their teachers play a crucial role in not only their education, but their upbringing. I admire their teachers. I am thankful for their teachers. And I try my hardest to support their teachers in as many ways as I am able.

I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to work with OfficeMax and Mom It Forward in the "A Day Made Better" campaign. Join me as we support our teachers and show our appreciation for their hard work in the form of supplies for their classrooms. I realize that this pay-it-forward giveaway takes more thought, effort and time than most giveaways, but it's my supposition that it's worth it. Your time (please, please participate) could make a huge difference for your child's teacher, and by extension, your child, and I think that's a reward in itself. Don't you?

Did you know teachers spend an average of $1200 of their own money on classroom supplies each year? That’s $4 billion annually! That's why OfficeMax joined with Adopt-A-Classroom to create "A Day Made Better"—a national cause event founded to erase teacher-funded classrooms. This year, “A Day Made Better” will take place on October 6 where 1,000 teachers will be surprised in their classrooms each with $1,000 worth of essential supplies from OfficeMax. That’s more than one million dollars donated to help teachers! Principals at needy schools nominated the teachers for demonstrating dedication, innovation, and passion.

To pay-it-forward, OfficeMax and Mom It Forward have teamed up to create awareness about the issue of teacher-funded classrooms and to give you the opportunity to get involved and help a teacher in your community on behalf of the “A Day Made Better.” Here’s how…

Simply nominate a teacher of your choice to win this giveaway by following the entry requirements. Be sure to check out the prize and criteria!

Prize

One exceptional teacher will receive a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR gift card to OfficeMax. This can go a long way when it comes to classroom supplies!

This is a giveaway that is meant to be given away. What does that mean? You get to nominate a teacher by sharing why this person is exceptional and deserving of this giveaway. The best part, every story told helps raise awareness in an effort to erase teacher-funded classrooms. Last week we tried out having a prompt IF and only IF you would like to use it.

For Next WEEK, The prompt is:

Fall. Let's see what autumn looks like in your neck of the woods.

This week I tried something a little different. It's Wordful. While not being too wordy. And there's an image. I know. It doesn't exactly meet the Wordful Wednesday criteria. But. It's my first Vlog. And I really, really wanted to show off. I know that making and publishing a vlog is second nature for many of you, but for me, this is a huge accomplishment. Humor me, will you? :)

P.S. I didn't really steal it. I bought it. I was only kidding.

Tuesday's Tribute-My own Dot Com

1581884212_57276dd550_o

Look at the super cute new Tribute Tuesday button. Remember, Mr. Linky will be hosted at Mayhem & Moxie starting next week. Not this week. But next week. This week you can find Mr. Linky here. Scratch that. Mr. Linky is MIA. Again. If he appears, great. If not. I guess there's no linking up this week. Sorry.

Today I tribute my very own DOT COM. That's right! I have my very own 7 Clown Circus domain. Now, you can find me at http://www.7clowncircus.com/.

Yahoo.

Don't worry, you can still access my site with my blogspot address (http://www.angiescircus.blogspot.com/), so it doesn't change anything for you, but it makes me feel more important.

And, you all know how feeling important makes me feel. Um. Important. And special. :)

I'd also like to draw your attention to the OfficeMax/GNO pay-it-forward contest going on now, here. Nominate a teacher that could use some school supplies and if your entry wins, I'll send you a $100 OfficeMax giftcard that you can then give to the teacher for supplies. Such a cool contest, if I do say so myself.

Don't forget to enter my fab giveaways this week. You can find the links in my right side bar.

I'm super blessed to have a super hero reside in my home.

Sometimes being a superhero is hard work though. There are snakes to catch, things to cut. Coyote poop to walk through (inside story)......see those boots?

And sometimes, after all that hard work, the only course of action is a quick nap.

It's not easy being a super hero, you know.

Day 4: Writer's Workshop-Moxie?

Moxie is defined as having spirit and courage.

Although I would like to think that I exercise Moxie on a regular basis, the truth is that I'm not at all sure that I do. If there was ever a time in my life that I feel that I exibited Moxie, it would have to be during my twins' pregnancy. It was the most stressful, isolating, scary, emotionally taxing period of time I hope to ever live through. I know that I got through it with help, but I also like to think that it was my spirit and courage that got me through it sane, with the decision firmly made that our family was complete.

Our last familial addition was by 20 perfect little toes. I'm thankful that those 20 toes combined with the 30 perfect little toes we had at home. I have 50 toes of varying kid sizes in my home now, and that makes me very, very happy. And content. You see, 5 children is enough for me.

Not because I don't love kids, especially my own, but because we made the decision that our family was complete while I was pregnant with the twins. I should really say that I pushed the decision, and Jeff supported me in it, which will always mean the world to me.

He wanted more children, and frankly still does, I think. But I don't. And he respects that.

I feel like my hands are full and my heart is happy with our little 5.

But that's not all. While I was going through my last pregnancy it was so emotionally taxing that I felt strongly that I couldn't do it again. Even if someone could have given me a crystal ball and told me that I would have a easy pregnancy with absolutely zero complications, I couldn't do it, and I still feel that way today, almost 4 years later.

From the time I was 17 weeks pregnant until my babies were born 16 weeks later, I was a nervous wreck. (To read about why, visit here.) I felt emotions that are impossible to describe. I felt blessed beyond measure to be carrying TWO babies, yet I felt like my pregnancy was a ticking time bomb. I just didn't know if the bomb was active or a dud. I knew that if I lost the babies life would go on and I would be comforted. At the same time, I could barely bear the thought of not having my babies. At any given second my babies could have been wreaking havoc on each other in utero, and I was powerless to stop them. I felt utterly and totally helpless. And very few people understood. It was a very isolating time.

That pregnancy came after pregnancy #2 where baby was born with a virus I passed on to her and an induced labor where her heartrate was abnormally high for too long. And pregnancy #3 where baby had an irregular unbilical cord (2 vessels instead of 3) that caused many days of stress and fear, a CF scare and hospitalization as an infant.

Back to the the last pregnancy though. I made the decision to have aggressive inpatient monitoring for my babies. It was the best thing for them, but whether it was the best thing for our family I didn't know. I had no idea how my children and husband would deal with having me gone for more than 2 months.

I exercised a lot of faith that my family would be taken care of. I prayed constantly for the peace of mind that would tell me everything would work out well. That if it didn't I would be able to go on. I trusted that if I did everything in my power to ensure my babies made it until their scheduled premature birthday, I would get through anything. Or that if they didn't, that I did all that I could and that I would still have the strength (courage?) to get through all the other things life threw my way.

Except another pregnancy. The thought of ever being pregnant again made me, um.... more than anxious.

And that sort of puts the cap on 5.

My hands are full, but my heart is fuller. And I feel content. I think that making that decision took courage and spirit.

Besides, we are already being eaten out of house and home.

Moxie? I think so.

And speaking of Moxie.........I'm off to see what Moxie Mona is up to today. I have a feeling she's been having a really, really good time!

Thursday, September 24

Jeff and I went to Cancun for our 10 year wedding anniversary last year. We wanted to go some where really nice and relaxing. And all inclusive. It was all of those things, and just to rub salt into the wound of all of you that haven't had any time away in too long, here's about a million pictures of the resort. Don't feel bad, reviving these pictures and the vacation is killing me. I want to go back so badly.

We had such an enjoyable time!

This is the back of the resort facing the Ocean.

The main plaza in the hotel.

Hanging beds by the bar. You know, in case you are too sloshed to sit up.

One of the main hall ways.

At the entrance to the hotel.

In a common area.
One of the views from our balcony.

Is this a nice touch or what? Rose petals shaped into a heart.

A double jacuzzi tub in our suite was really nice.

This is just half of the spacious shower in our room.

Our balcony overlooking the pool and Caribean.

The other view from our balcony. The main drag of the hotel zone.
The pool was, in a word, amazing.

The part of the pool we liked to swim in.
These fish live at our favorite restaurant.

Would we go back? In a HEART BEAT! Please, Jeff, Please. Take me back. {You never know when begging might help!}

Day 2: Tuesday's Tribute

Let me just tell you up front that I am {figuratively} taking my life in my hands by writing this post about one of my favorite aspects of summer. My husband. I know that he'd prefer that I didn't. I know that I shouldn't. But I can't NOT. You see, this summer my husband was able to take tons of time off from work, so it seemed like I had him to myself for the duration of the vacation. Which is rare. And special.

It's no secret that I think he's pretty spectacular, and sometimes, even though he hates attention, I tell people. In this case, a lot of people. I just won't tell him how many people. (smile).

Jeff just happens to be my husband of over a decade. {Yes, I WAS bragging there.} He's smart. Really, really smart. I pride myself on being at least moderately intelligent, but (and it does pain me to say this) his intelligence far exceeds mine. The guy has a mind like a steel trap. He doesn't forget anything (unless it's the items I asked him to pick up at the store), and he retains information like no one I've ever met before.

He can do just about anything he sets his mind to. Not only can he tell me about physiological functions, or the molecular make up of a substance, he can lay tile, produce amazing wood work, AND he has a great eye for design. I thought most people were either right or left brained, but this guy seems to excel at both right and left brained activities. It's kind of not fair.

He's a super-duper husband, and a fantabulous father. He's a wonderful provider, and he makes us all feel safe.

Plus, he's pretty darn handsome.

Getting him almost all to myself for the summer? Definitely special. And memorable.

Don't forget to head over to Mayhem & Moxie to read about what other people think of their summer vacation. AND, just a reminder, Tuesday's Tribute will be hosted at Mayhem & Moxie from here on out.

Now, how about a few visits with our trusty and well traveled Mona?

Today, on Tuesday, September 22, you'll find Moxie Mona at the following locations:

Minnesota: The Extraordinary Ordinary
Nebraska: Newly Wed, Newly Bred
Iowa: Fighting Off Frumpy
Wisconsin: Ann Rant’s
Illinois: Look It’s Megryansmom
Kansas: Superdumb Supervillian

That Moxie Mona sure gets around. Wanna join me as she heads South?

New Mexico: Color Me Untypical Texas: Baby Makin(g) Machine, A Southern Fairytale, June Cleaver Nirvana, and Tree, Root, and Twig Oklahoma: Decisionally Challenged Arkansas: A Daily Dose of Toni

Tomorrow here at 7 Clown Circus, Wordful Wednesday will be going on as usual. If you want a prompt, it's easy. Favorite travel destination. Recycling is perfectly acceptable. Just so you know. :)
