I started a new tradition last year.

The tradition involves calling Tammie of Halcomb Photography and asking her to photograph my family before the holidays.  Knowing that this has hereby been declared a tradition by me, I have all year to think about settings and wardrobe.  All year.  Yet both years I've put those details off until the last minute and then run around like a crazy person trying to find just the right spot and just the right outfits.  Not the smartest thing to do or the best use of my time....sigh.

I found the perfect setting at the last minute this year.  It involved a park with beautiful trees and a duck/turtle pond.

There was just one tinsy problem.  Other people found the perfect spot too.

Who would have guessed?

Two bridal parties and no less than 4 quinceneras.  One hour of good light and about a million people vying for the same spots.

I wasn't very happy.  Neither was Jeff.  Tammie wasn't phased by it though and got some great shots.   At least I'm confident she did.  She always does.  I've only seen a few.

Like this one.

I can't wait to show you more.  First I have to deal with the fact that my hair looked super stupid (no one's fault but my own) in some of them and the super cute shirt I was wearing made me look.....chunkier than I'd like.  I hate it when that nasty vanity rears it's big fat head..........:)

We just did family photos too. I had camera malfunctions and the same crowded park problem. And then I had to go and tilt my head just right to give myself a double chin (which I don't actually have!).

Add to all that the wiggly one year old. Why are family photos so hard?

At least all your kids are smiling!

Kiki said...

it's a beautiful picture and your hair looks fantabulous. i just got a new camera and i'm going to try to take some family portraits. i already have a tripod. the hard part is getting my hubs and kid to smile. we did a family photo shoot on the beach last year and had the same issue with people waiting and getting in the way. also had to deal with ants in the sand. not fun when you have 4 toddlers screaming. happy WW and take care.

Your photo is beautiful! And just how do you get 5 kids to smile and look at the camera all at the same time? We have trouble achieving that with 3 kids!

I don't know what mirror you are looking in but you do not look chunky or have stupid hair....well, wait, let's ask it some questions first. :)

You and a beautiful family.

You have such a beautiful family Angie. Photos like this just remind me how blessed we are to have our children. And of course I'm feeling extra thankful these days.

And I'm sure you are just as gorgeous in them all! : )

Angela said...

You guys look great! We always fight during family portrait time, but luckily this year, we got one taken by my brother-in-law over the summer. Last year I had to photoshop faces from two different photos!

Milk and Honey Mommy said...

Oh Angie,

You're such a mommy. Planning at the last minute is usually what we do; at least I do. I like the tradition. I've been trying to come up w/something that will leave great memories for my children. I need to hurry before they all grow up.

Well, I think you look fabulous, and once again, I'm amazed by your ability to get your entire brood to cooperate and smile. Can you come over and work on my kids now?

Jennifer said...

Your family photo is lovely, you are being far too hard on yourself.

Kacey said...

Everyone is smiling and no one will ever know all that you went through just to get that perfect shot!

Colette S said...

Sweetie, you look lovely. Your whole family radiates :)

But it is true, most people don't like their photos :) But do listen to what everyone else sees.

Lovely photo.

What a beautiful family you have. The picture is wonderful.

I think it's a great photo. It's tough for us to get a decent photo with one child - I cannot imagine trying to get five to look great in the shot.

What a great tradition to have started : ) The pictures look very sweet! We saw a lot of Quincenera's in Texas last weekend! There aren't any around here! I am glad you got some shots in!

What a great pic!! You are look great, and your hair certainly does NOT look super stupid, I think it looks great!

I only hope I can get a pic of both boys smiling and actually looking at the camera...together!

Beautiful picture!!

We had our pictures taken this last weekend, too... Noah was being a grumpy-butt, it was freezing cold, and we ran out of daylight! Hopefully at least ONE turned out!

Buckeroomama said...

I think your family pic turned out great! :)

What you just described sounds like my wedding day shoot at the park. Everyone getting married that day seemed to have the same great idea for a location.

Jennifer said...

LOL! Well, I certainly know a thing or two about that stupid vanity! This picture is lovely. And honestly, I still cannot believe you have five kids. How do you do it and not look haggard, woman?!?! ;-)

Terra Heck said...

What a beautiful photo. I'm sure you look good in them. We are our own worst critic. I took some family photos a couple of weeks ago at a nearby park and trail of my kids. Can't wait to send them out with the holiday cards.

Erinjeany said...

What a great photo! We desperately need to do one with hub, Elijah and I! We have tons of pictures of Elijah and extended family, but some how hub and I seem to miss being in pictures ourselves. Let alone TOGETHER. Or as a family.

Happy ww! :)

I bet they turned out gorgeous, if this photo is any indicator. I can't wait to see the rest. We are having our family portraits taken next year. I am so nervous! Thankfully, our photographer is a star so I know they will come out great.

Your family is so amazingly beautiful. I know those vanities come out b/c I do the same thing when I see a picture of myself. But I think that you and everyone else looks great!

Shell said...

I'm so impressed that you have such a great shot of the whole family! We have NOT managed that with our 3 boys. We had to take the pic where everyone looks the least amount of crazy.

Unknown said...

You guys look like perfection. You are all so beautiful! I had to laugh, though, about the location. I can relate (as a photographer!)

I am thinking of having a family photo done and using them as part of a Christmas gift to my parents this year.

What a great photo...

Fabulous!!! Everyone is smiling and actually looking at the camera. That's 4 stars in my opinion. I have 3 boys and I've tried. I mean I really do try but I can hardly ever get them all to look at the camera at the same time, let alone be smiling. Granted they are 1,3, and 5. Your family is beautiful!!!

Michelle said...

I think the shot looks great. I only have a family of 5 and getting a good shot of all of us is nearly impossible. I can't imagine adding two more kids into the shot.

S Club Mama said...

you shush that filthy mouth. you look fantastic! And omg is your family gorgeous or what?

S Club Mama said...

oh we did family pictures too. More Husker-themed than pretty-themed and we just took some in our backyard. So much easier than trampsing all over looking for a good spot (we also can't go near water or we have to put Moose is a sleeper hold LOL).

Sherean said...

OK, your hair looks BEAUTIFUL and you don't look anywhere near chunky. Besides, everyone will be looking at your cute kids. (Or at least that's what I tell myself when I see pics of me -- scraggly hair pulled back, no makeup on -- with my son; they don't even notice me, right?)

Molly said...

I LOVE LOVE the family shot! And let me assure you, your hair does not look stupid. :)

Kristin said...

Your hair looks perfect. I'm not sure about the chubby blouse though, hiding behind kids like that. You could just skip the whole thing like we do. We only have family pictures when Mom organizes it. So the last one was in 2004. I know. We have no family picture since then. And that was 2 kids ago! LOL.

Theta Mom said...

Seriously girl, I still marvel at the fact that you have 5 kids. You have such a beautiful family!!! (and your hair DOES look good) ;)

I'm sure you looked gorgeous! Great family photo by the way. We're going to get our first portrait as a family on Saturday, but only at Sears.

What a great shot! I've decided from now on when we do family photos I'm going to make hubs take a test shot of me in my shirt so I can see how it looks - I hate it when I realize too late that my clothes are adding extra pounds. In my newborn "still packing baby weight" state I especially don't need any help! ;)

AiringMyLaundry said...

That is a good picture!

Live.Love.Eat said...

No one can tell all that you went through for that shot. It looks beautiful. Now, what's a quincenaras? Or something like that? :)

Michelle said...

You are hidden well enough that even if you were looking a little heavier (which I do not see that) it wouldnt matter anyway. I think your hair is cute.

I OBSESS about C-mas pictures. I picked out the perfect dresses only to keep looking for more. When I decided to go ahead and get the original dresses they were sold out in small sizes. So I found some different ones that my DH liked. I put it off while I looked some more. You guessed it...small size that I needed GONE. I went ahead and ordered them in hopes that it wont be too small...we'll see. Velvet cmas dresses usually run big.

Are you kidding me? Your hair looks perfect! You look beautiful in fact! I cannot wait to see the rest of them. But... if all the shots are just you and the fam in front of some shrubs, you probably could have found the perfect spot in your yard. Heeheehee
