Writer's Workshop-It's what he's saying.....

You all know how this works.

Mama Kat gives us a prompt, and we write about it.

Today I couldn't resist.

One of the prompts was, "What are your kids talking about?"

I'm tweaking it to be: "What are your kids saying?"

More specifically, "What is your kid saying?"

I chose John to talk about. You know John. He's 3.

He slays me.

The stuff that comes out of his mouth.

Kills me.

And even though it's naughty sometimes, like when he gets mad at me and calls me a "poop head", I just can't get mad. It's all in his personality, folks.

So I'll just leave you with what he says when it smells bad outside.

If it smells like a farm or zoo, he'll scrunch up his nose and say in a disgusted voice, "I smell a dragon".

The other day he smelled something unpleasant outside, but it was a sort of foreign smell. No, not foreign like a person from another country, foreign as in I-have-no idea-what-the-smell was.

John said, "uh oh. I smell a coyote".

Maybe you just have to be there. Or maybe not. But, I love to be there because being told it smells like a dragon or a coyote strangely makes my day, and I don't ever want to forget the sound of his voice or the inflection in his words or the way his face shows such expression. I just plain don't want to forget any of these moments because I know all too soon I'll realize they are gone. I'll even miss it when he learns how to master his emotions and can hold back calling me a "poop head". Then he'll be calling me something else in his head that I won't even want to think about. And I don't even want to go there.

well, you're lucky then, because he may very well never stop calling you a poophead. mine is 15, and i hear it on a fairly regular basis.

Love it! Okay, except for the poop head thing. But other than that, I'm all for kids expression and LOVE when they say things that are WAY off but really funny!

So Sweet!

That is so funny! Dragons & cayotes oh my! Oh the things they say. Yesterday I was snuggling with Ry in his room reading and he looked at me and said "I love my room." And I said "great why?" He said: "Its just perfect." Too cute!

How cute! He's got quite an imagination!

That is hilarious! Are the twins picking up on his sayings? I am finding my boys picking up what Olivia says. Awesome is the most used word they've picked up.

I am not going to send out the Temple Family Files until we have moved. I am trying to get everything sorted and packed right now.

I have not seen your blog for a while because I just read it on my Blackberry... WOW girl! What a following! U ROCK!

Any hints on surviving the move or unpacking? My mom is taking the younger 3 kids for 3 weeks so that is definitely going to help.

Miss chatting with you SO MUCH!

hugs!

LOL, I love that!!! Reminds me of my Ben, who says to me daily, "I love you, stinky feet." Little boys are the best. :)

That is so true! I know exactly what you mean about your son telling you something, and he is just that way, and you don't even get mad. I am a pushover with my son (although also with my two girls).

Thanks for the smile today, and helping me remember why I appreciate my family!

Amen and amen! I can't think how many times that exact train of thoughts has gone through my head. Man! They do grow up so fast, even if it is cliche to say it, it is so true! I did this same prompt and tweaked it a little, too!

He's definitely creative!

that is awesome. I love the stuff that little boys think of. I am sure that little girls think of some pretty cool things too but my little girl can't really talk yet so I don't know. ;)

I'd be happy with poophead instead of the alternative too. Of course, what they don't say out loud won't hurt you.

Dana said...

He sounds like quite the character. I've got a couple of those here.....really, they do tend to just put a smile on your face, don't they?

This might be one of my favorite posts yet. It is so true to my heart right now. My girls say the darnest things :)

Sorry to hear you have become a poophead. One day you will prolly wish that he only called you a poophead :)

Love the smell of coyotes and dragons. My girls just gag if they don't like the smell or if it smells strange LOL

I know exactly what you mean. My 3year old daughter makes me laugh every day. And, I try to write the things she says down...because I don't want to forget it, or her little sweet voice saying it. :-)

I am so with you on all of this. I love to listen to my kiddies chatter. The way they choose to describe things is priceless and goes away so quickly. I love John's smelly descriptions. I never thought about what a dragon or a coyote might smell like but I bet it ain't good. What a clever boy!

3 year olds say the funniest things. What about Jacob? Only John?

I find myself pulling out the camera for a short video clip or the cell phone for an audio byte when the girls get a new cute saying. It goes by so fast!

T Rex Mom said...

You are so right. They grow so fast. I love hearing my little guy say "Momma". I cannot get enough of it.

John sounds very charming. Very descriptive statements about what he's smelling.

On a side note, has he ever smelled an actual coyote?

This story was SO cute : ). So cute I am still smiling and I read it 30 minutes ago. You know it is a sweet story if the smile lingers! Hope your Friday is fantabulous!

I know what you mean!! Laina has these expressions that I would bottle if I could. This is such a sweet age (mostly) and we need love it while it lasts.

Smells like a coyote?? How do you NOT bust out laughing when he says stuff like that?? Adorbale!

scrappysue said...

and it doesn't matter that he's probably never even been CLOSE to a coyote!!!

Kelly said...

I love it! My girls say some crazy stuff too and I am so glad I keep track of it.

funny. here in Indonesia, there's a joke says that someone's mouth when he wakes up from asleep smells like dragon

hmmm... do dragons really smell that bad?

Ok, so many emotions running through me right now. Giggly at this, happy because I know what you mean, sad at the thought of forgetting too all the funny things Tristan says and then worried about that time when he won't always say what he means.

But really, it's all good. Just tonight, hubs and I were enjoying some witty banter that was getting rowdy and Tristan turns to me and says "Mom, remember, don't worry, be happy." But not before calling me a geek.

It cracks me up how little boys will call people poop heads. We try to stop them but can't wait the smile off our face. Those child words are so special, enjoy them!

Hahahaha! Love it! Poop head!

I absolutely love the "I smell a dragon!" I definitely need to use that one! So darn cute!

Oh, this is so lovely! It's great to have a blog (or a scrapbook, or a diary, or whatever) to keep a note of these things because great as they are now, they're all too easy to forget.
Janice.
PS. You asked about the effect of the tide action on my post for Scenic Sunday. I've added a comment about it with more detail, but basically, yes, at low tide you will always see the narrow channels of water left, or even no water at all for an hour or two.
