The culmination of Grace's literacy project made me cry. For a month now, Grace has read for about an hour each evening in order to earn money to be donated to impoverished families in Uganda. Her school class had a goal to earn enough money to provide a family with a renewable food source. A goat. Each 2nd grade class in her school participated, and they hoped to be able to pay for 4 goats total. These goats can make such a big difference in the lives of these families, and I was so proud to learn that a small group of 7 and 8 year olds read their way to helping 30 families. It was so touching to see all these smiling, happy, priviliged children do a small part in changing the world. I cried because I was touched by their efforts and humbled by all the little things I take for granted. Good thing no one saw me. Cry that is. That would have been embarrassing.

That's awesome. I've heard of Heifer Int'l...they do good work. Its great that your daughter's school got involved. And its great for getting kids to read!!!
It is quite clear that your children are learning important values early on in life! Kudos to you and their teachers:)
Grace is so darn cute! That is awesome that they are doing that at School. What a great way to get kids to think how other people live. We don't all live in our quaint little town of sometime snotty people :) Great story I will share later.
golden hearts....
I love this project. What a wonderful thing!
We did this, while I was a second grade teacher, as a school. It's amazing stuff. I loved being a part of it.
We did a run and got people to sponser us.
It gave meaning and purpose to the run.
Good times.
What a wonderful thing to do. Grace looks wonderful standing up there speaking, what a proud mummy moment. Great job kids :)

What a great project and way to go Grace for reading every night. It makes me grateful for all that we have.
What an amazing thing to do! I think that it is critical that we teach our privileged children how important it is to give back. Way to go Grace!
What a neat project...and don't be embarassed to cry when you're proud of your kids!! It's all part of being a mom!!
What a great idea. I love it when I see kids excited about an opportunity to better their communities or their world, and really get excited about service. Way to go Grace!
