Home. Tired. Stitched. And Ready to Cry.

The surgery went really well today. In case you missed it on the last post, I was scheduled for a biopsy on a recurrently blocked salivary gland on my soft palate and two skin grafts by which they take skin from my palate and graft it to two other areas in my mouth. Above two teeth that I brush too hard the gum had receded exposing the root of the tooth, which in turn caused sensitivity. So, the skin graft will cover the root and diminish the sensitivity. Basically, the doctor cut what looks like a trap door on my palate and removed skin from under the flap. Then he closed and sewed back up the flap and grafted the skin he extracted to the two sensitive areas. It took 3 hours, but those 3 Halcions I took for anxiety really helped. I think I even snoozed a few times during the procedure. For the next few days I'm going to be pill popping like crazy. Antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and narcotic pain relievers should keep me feeling pretty good. I have stitches in 3 areas of my mouth, and until the first set gets taken out next week, I'm on a pretty soft diet. Hum.........what sounds good?

I just added the "ready to cry" part to my title. Please excuse my french here, but I am so freaking hungry. I tried to eat a yogurt and it just about did me in. Yes, it hurt THAT bad. This reminds me of when I had the twins. I couldn't eat for like 14 days (not really....it was like 12 hours) before the surgery and I was starving. Knowing that Thanksgiving was the next day and that I likely wouldn't be able to eat for another 2 days made it even worse. This is similar. I want to eat. My stomach is telling my mouth to shove something to eat in it. It's even growling loud enough for my ears to get the message. Yet. I. Can't. It hurts too bad. I'm trying to decide whether or not to cry. I'm leaning towards not. I'll try to buck up. I just hope my stomach gets the message. And soon.

Glad all went well today. Take it easy and let your body heal. Enjoy some jello and shakes!

That sounds awful! I will thinking of you. When I had to do a soft diet I lived on Dannon yogurt drinks, chocolate pudding, jello, etc...

Get better soon!

i'm guessing you had your wisdom teeth out! Sorry about that, it's no fun. Hope your recovery goes well. I loved mashed potatoes, spaghetti o's, apple sauce, and soup.

Drugs are good... Thanks for letting us know that all went well. I wanted to know, but knew you would not be up for chatting. I will wait awhile before I call. I am sending lots of love for a speedy and healthy recovery.

As far as soft foods go, you probably will enjoy the goodies at first, but after a week you will be so sick of them and sugared out! Try some yummy soups (full of vegies and protein), with lots of flavor, then blend it in the blender. It sounds gross, but it really is not too bad. Good luck. Love, Kirst

Yeah, a little vague, or did I miss a post?
Buy soup, and run it through the blender, or any thing you make, through the baby mill.

I hate ALL of that. Just a scrape in your mouth is TERRIBLE, but stitches?

YEEE-eerch.

How about cold things? Smoothies, super-yummy Haagen-Dazs Ice cream bars, maybe I'll go for oral surgery too...

No Fun for you! I had oral surgery when I was 15 and I think the worst part was the shot in the roof of my mouth. Plus I was dizzy when I tried to get up.

Hope you recovery quickly and find some yummy soft foods.

I hope you heal soon. If I was on a soft diet I would live on creme brule. I am sure that is spelled wrong. I hope you know what I mean.
Get feeling better.

Oh my I'm sorry you are in so much pain, that's just awful. I would be beside myself if I couldn't eat.

I say frozen margaritas all the way baby. Hey if you don't freeze the roof of your mouth with them, you'll at least be mighty chirpy :) .. just not while you're on drugs though LOL

Hope you are sleeping right now and will be able to eat a little something in the morning :)

I understand. I had three dry sockets when I had my wisdom teeth removed and it really was forever before I could eat. I hate that feeling. I am sorry.

Angie...I am sorry I ran out of time to call you on Tuesday. I had something similar to this done years ago...and I am crying for you. It is not a pleasant experience at all. Please call if you need anything! I am not going to bother you.

I had an esophogeal ulcer once and I lived on mashed potatoes and baby food for 3 wks! (needless to say that while it hurt like a (you know what) it was the best diet ever!
Although if you lose anymore weight you might disappear so have some protein shakes!

I'm down with the frozen margie idea too! *wink
I'll be praying for a speedy recovery!

Angie, You poor thing I wish I was close so I could help you out, at least take the kids off your hands. Not being able to eat totally sucks. I remember having oral surgery all I could eat was pudding and applesauce, and Dad thought it was cool to go out to Red Lobster that night. Your in our prayers

You poor thing. I hope you heal quickly and can start eating again without pain soon.

That. Sounds. Like. Hell.

My mouth hurts just reading that. THREE HOURS!?! Holy...SMOKES that's a lot of time in the dentist. My dentist recently said something about receding gum lines to me too...now I wish I had paid attention. A little worried.

I hope you're able to pop some pills and at least get some good sleep tonight!!

Shannon said...

Oh Ang, I am feeling for you right now. Nothing worse than a hungry belly and not being able to eat! I hope that it feels better REALLY soon. Lots of healing energy coming your way!

I can't even imagine...really. Maybe I need something like that though because I really need some motivation to STOP eating as much. I hope you feel better very soon though. A Jamba juice or something??

I hope by now you're feeling and eating a lot better. Would an Ensure help? Definitely "invalid food" but at least it would get a lot of nutrition into you and help you feel satiated.

Heal well Angie.

Hope your feeling better today...would a shake be okay?? Maybe the cold will numb the pain a little bit...Or eat when the pain meds just hit so they are at their stongest. Good luck!!
