Literacy Thursday

So see what others are reading, go see Jennifer @ If you're happy and you know it....
This is hands down, one of our favorite children's book of all times. I can't figure out who loves the book more; the kids, or Jeff and me. This book is so much fun.....no matter how many times we've read it, we still laugh out loud every. single. time.

The story incompasses what I only hope is a full day (and not just a few hours) of David's life. His antics are illustrated with vibrant acrylic paint and really show both David's relentless acts of mischief, and his emotions.

It's really no surprise to me that this is a Caldecott Honor book, which as you know, is the most prestigious award given to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book published that year.

If you haven't read this yet, you must.

I 'm even going to make it easy for you. I'm giving away a copy to one of you that doesn't already own it. The copy I'll send is used, but in good condition and has been lovingly handled by my children.
I'm thinking we don't need 6 copies laying around the house. Surely, we can manage with just 5.

Besides, I just got my hands on this new knock off, which can replace the one I'm sending out.
If you'd like my copy, let me know in your comment.

Very cute book. We have only read it once or twice at the library but it is very cute.

i think the true sign of a good kids' book is if the parents enjoy reading it, too! after all, when reading to kids, you have to read the same books over and over and over AND OVER again... us grownups should be able to enjoy ourselves, too!

Wonderful tip! It is the 50th anniversary of the children's book Le Petit Nicolas here in France. I'm pretty sure that it was translated into English too:)

I own three copies of this book that reside in my classroom. My students read this book over and over and over and LOVE it every time! David Shannon is awesome. Have you read his other David books or any of his other great stroies, like "A Bad Case of the Stripes"? Anyway, good stuff! I also love the knockoff version you have here! :)

Luke loves that book too. I have to admit....I don't so much. Not enough words for me. He laughs so darn hard though, that it makes me laugh too!

Love that book! But we already have a copy, thanks! Somebody out there will enjoy your extra one.

I haven't read this book to my little Tink yet. She loves to be read to and quickly memorizes the words so she can "read" them to her cousins. I would love a copy of this, I'm going to have to put it on our list for the book store.

I would love a copy of this book. I'll have to check our library to see if they have it. My 9yo is a voracious reader and I'm hoping his younger siblings will be too so I'm always looking for fun books to share with them.

I adore kids books, but I have honestly never read this one! Good thing we're off to the library today--I know what we'll be checking out!

Great. I think my comment just disappeared! That or you are about to get a duplicate! LOL

We read this to my daughter when she was younger. We loved it! I would love to own a copy for my toddler! Reminds me of him! LOL

And your knock off? Is that up for grabs too? CUTE!

My son just read his 101st book yesterday - you should have seen his smile!!!!!! Which now that I think about it - I should have taken a photo of that!

I love children's books. When my sister was in college she worked at a childrens book store so I have a great collection signed by their authors.

I never found David very appealing! But then I think that I am the only person in the world who also didn't like Goodnight Bunny!

Love the bootleg copy tho!

This was one of my Christmas list books BUT everywhere was out. I would have had to get it online and I just haven't yet. Laziness I am assuming..

Count me in though, I really would love it for my library.

Wow...a copy of the book for every kiddo in your house with one to spare! We actually don't have this one yet, so count me in on the giveaway:)

You may be shocked to learn this, but I don't actually own this book: at work OR home. So I'd love to win! :)

I would so love to own your 6th copy of this book. I actually haven't ever heard of this book which is surprising since we own almost a library of childrens books :)

I would also love a chance to read the entire copy of your knock off!!

I am glad to know after five children (17, 15, 14, 6, and 6) and hundreds of books that there are still wonderful children's books that we haven't found. I will put this on our must-read list. Thank you.

How precious! That is the best part of reading to kids, is when they make it their own.

Can you believe that we have never read a David story? I know....I really think Kendrick was meant for that book, but we haven't read it. See...this is what it is all about. next time we go to the library, I am searching for it. That is unless I win your copy! :) Thanks for playing!

Marie Reed said...

and... I would of course love to win a loved copy of that children's book!

This is one of our faves, but I don't think we own it! You've seen the other David books, right? Just as funny!

Just found your blog. I love that you have Literacy Thursdays! WooHoo!!

This book is a favorite in our clinic as well. Kids just love it when the books are about getting in trouble or when something unusual happens to someone else. I like the title "literacy thursday". will check it out!

I love the "knock off". I haven't read the original but I trust your judgement. I will have to take a peek at it.
Just a note, I was in Borders last night and found this book that I absolutely feel in LOVE with. For anyone, and as this book points out any girl is, who has a princess in there lives you gotta see this. It's called Princesses Rule by Carmela La Vigna Coyle. Just in love with it.

We read that book to shreds when my boys were little- it is great!

This is a favorite in our house too. My little 2 year old, (just learning to talk) will point his finger at me and say, "No Davie...No fishie... No tubby ... go room!" Hilarious.

But I LOVE your kids spin on the book. That is a keeper.
